Topography

Khaoyai National Park is covers the western part of the Phanom Dong Rek Mountains and is towering over the Central Plains and forms the boundary of the Khorat Plateau. Khao Rom is the highest peak, towering 1,351 metres, followed by Khao Sam Yot – 1,142 metres, and Khao Fa Pha – 1,078 metres above sea level. The Park also covers alternate vast fields and fertile
forests.  The eastern part slopes down to the south while the western area features high mountains

Flora and Fauna

There are many kinds of forest within the Park, comprising mixed deciduous forest, dry evergreen forest, moist evergreen forest, hill evergreen forest, deciduous dipterocarp forest, and savannah. The forests provide a natural habitat for a large number of wild animals. The most frequently seen animals are common barking deer, deer, and elephants. Tigers etc gaurs, serows, bears, porcupines, gibbons, giant squirrels, yellow-throated martens, Indian civets, palm civets, Siamese hares etc.
